Authorities investigate Cook County inmate’s death

At about 5 a.m. on Nov. 13, an inmate at the Cook County Jail collapsed at the jail and was transported to the Adel Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim, Lewis Jermaine Pewee of Cook County, was 21 years old. There was no evidence of any injuries sustained by Mr. Pewee and foul play is not suspected at this time.

The GBI Douglas office was contacted and requested to assist in the investigation. An autopsy was conducted on Nov.15 at the GBI Crime Lab and the cause of death is pending further tests.
