Marshall, Bishop trailing Republican opponents

ATLANTA – Democrats Jim Marshall and Sanford Bishop, a pair of conservative-leaning Democrats, were trailing in their bids for re-election to the U.S. House.

In the 2nd Congressional District, with 57 percent of precincts reporting, Republican Mike Keown was leading Bishop 56 percent to 44 percent. In the 8th Congressional District, with 72 percent of precincts reporting, Republican Austin Scott was leading Marshall 53 percent to 47 percent.

In recent weeks, both Bishop and Marshall have taken conservative-leaning stances on two high-profile issues.
Marshall said he wouldn’t support Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi for another term as speaker, if Democrats should retain control of the House. Bishop spoke out in favor of extending the so-called Bush Tax Cuts.

Meanwhile, in the 12th Congressional District, with 72 percent of precincts reporting, Rep. John Barrow, a Democrat, was leading Republican challenger Ray McKinney 51 percent to 49 percent.

Elsewhere in the state, Reps. David Scott, John Lewis and Hank Johnson, all Democrats, easily won re-election.
