Fox News: Isakson wins re-election

ATLANTA – Johnny Isakson won re-election Tuesday to the U.S. Senate, defeating Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond, Fox News reported.

According to the Secretary of State’s website, with 5 percent of precincts reporting, Isakson, a Republican, garnered 64 percent of the vote. Thurmond, a Democrat, had 33.6 percent of the vote and Libertarian Chuck Donovan rounded out the field with 2.4 percent of the vote.

Meanwhile, results for a number of other statewide races are still being tallied.

In early returns, Republican Nathan Deal led Democrat Roy Barnes and Libertarian John Monds in Georgia’s gubernatorial race. According to the Secretary of State’s website, Deal had 58.1 percent of the vote, with 5 percent of precincts reporting.

In another race, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, a Republican, appeared headed to re-election over Democrat Carol Porter and Libertarian Dan Barber. Cagle, according to the Secretary of State’s website, had 59.6 percent of the vote.

In addition, voters also cast ballots on a statewide referendum and five constitutional amendments.
