Breaking down Tuesday’s federal races in Ga. (Part I)

ATLANTA – In advance of Tuesday’s election, here’s a quick rundown of how the 13 U.S. House races and one U.S. Senate race are shaping up here in Georgia.

1st Congressional District: Rep. Jack Kingston, a Republican, seems headed to victory over Democratic challenger Oscar Harris II.

2nd Congressional District: Could this be the biggest upset this year in Georgia? A poll from Landmark Communications shows Rep. Sanford Bishop, a Democrat, trailing Republican challenger Mike Keown by a 50-46 margin.

3rd Congressional District: Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, a Republican, appears as though he will handily defeat Democratic challenger Frank Saunders.

4th Congressional District: Rep. Hank Johnson, a Democrat, is likely to finish off Republican challenger Liz Carter with little trouble, polls suggest.

5th Congressional District: Conventional wisdom suggests that Rep. John Lewis, a Democrat, will coast to re-election over Republican challenger Fenn Little.

6th Congressional District: Rep. Tom Price, a Republican, is running unopposed.

7th Congressional District: No surprise here: A Landmark Communications survey shows Republican Rob Woodall running away in the 7th Congressional District, leading Democrat Doug Heckman by a 2-1 margin. The winner replaces Rep. John Linder, a Republican, who opted not to seek re-election this year.
