How well did metro Atlanta counties participate in Census?

ATLANTA — New numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau show that 74 percent of households nationwide completed and submitted their survey.
Georgia came in below the national average with a 72 percent completion rate.

Some metro Atlanta counties topped the national participation average. Metro participation rates:

  • Cherokee County: 79 percent
  • Henry County: 76 percent
  • Barrow County: 75 percent
  • Cobb County: 75 percent
  • Newton County: 75 percent
  • Rockdale County: 73 percent
  • Gwinnett County: 73 percent
  • DeKalb County: 72 percent
  • Fulton County: 70 percent
  • Clayton County: 68 percent

“We are very pleased with the public’s response to the 2010 Census, and these results demonstrate that the public stepped up to be counted,” Census Bureau Director Robert Groves said in a news release.

The Census data will be used during next year’s Congressional redistricting.

“As the law requires, we look forward to reporting to the nation by Dec. 31 the national and state populations as well as the allocation of seats to each state in the U.S. House of Representatives,” Groves said.
