DOT continues I20 resurfacing

LITHONIA, Ga. – The resurfacing of Interstate 20 continued this weekend, slowing westbound traffic Sunday afternoon.

As part of the $28.6 million project, the state Department of Transportation is resurfacing the interstate between Columbia Drive and Turner Hill Road in Dekalb County. This weekend, two left lanes were closed between the Farrington Road overpass to Wesley Chapel Road, according to the DOT.

“We had significant backups last weekend all the way to West Avenue in Conyers, primarily on Saturday afternoon,” DOT District Construction Engineer Mickey McGee said in a news release. “We are putting more changeable message signs out for this weekend to try to let people know what’s going on.”

The project is expected to continue on weekends and weeknights until this fall, the DOT said. No lane closures are expected on holiday weekends.
