Republicans want straight vote

House Republicans urged House leaders to vote — not deem and pass — the health care bill.

“House Democrats want to pass this abomination without actually voting on it. That should tell Americans all they need to know about it,” U.S. Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., said in a statement. “Americans know the status quo is unacceptable, but they also know the Democrats’ plan is far, far worse.

“You can’t improve health care in this country by taking power away from patients and doctors and putting it in the hands of Washington bureaucrats,” Price added.

Meanwhile, House Republican Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, asked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., requesting that the final health care votes be recorded by “call of the roll.”

“This weekend’s votes will be among the most consequential votes we will ever cast as Members of Congress,” Boehner said in the letter to Speaker Pelosi. “As such, it is my belief that every Member should stand before the American people and announce his or her vote as the final decision is made.”
