Ga. dems likely to vote no on health care

When the House votes on its controversial health care bill on Sunday, two Georgia Democrats are expected to vote in opposition.
Both John Barrow, whose district includes the Savannah area, and Jim Marshall, whose district includes the Macon area, are expected to vote “no” to the health care bill.
“I am strongly in favor of reforming the health care system, but I don't think this bill is going to do it, and therefore I can't support it,” Barrow, D-Ga., said in a Friday statement. “It puts too much of the burden of paying for it on working folks who are already being overcharged, and that's not fair.
“It threatens to overwhelm Medicaid in Georgia, and that's not right,” Barrow added. “And it barely touches the insurance companies, and that's not smart. We can do better and I'm ready to start.”
Democratic Reps. John Lewis, David Scott, Hank Johnson and Sanford Bishop are expected to vote in favor of the legislation. Georgia's seven Republican representatives are almost certain to oppose the measure.
“This bill is not perfect. We cannot, however, let the perfect be the enemy of the good,” Bishop said in a statement announcing his support of the bill. “Nor can we allow fear, misinformation, political motivation and partisanship to prevent us from taking the necessary steps to improve our health care system.”
