Two Inmates Escape Ga.’s Hays State Prison

ATLANTA – Georgia Department of Corrections advises that at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 13, two inmates escaped from Hays State Prison, a remote close security facility near Trion, Georgia.

The inmates have been identified as Johnny Mack Brown and Michael A. Tweedel.

Currently serving a life sentence for armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle, theft by taking, aggravated battery, and aggravated assault out of Clarke County, Brown is described as a white male, 53 years of age, 5’ 08”, 149 pounds and bears a scar on his back and right thigh.

Tweedel, serving two 10-year sentences for armed robbery out of Cobb County is described as a white male, 48 years of age, 5’ 06”, 153 pounds with no prominent markings. Local law enforcement officials as well as the Georgia State Patrol are assisting Department of Corrections’ officials in the search for the two escapees.

The search is focusing on the Northeastern portion of Chattooga County, around the Spring Creek area.

Anyone observing suspicious persons should immediately report their observations to local law enforcement.
