Rangers First Team in 110 Years to Score 30

BALTIMORE, Aug. 22, 2007 — The Texas Rangers became the first team in 110 years to score 30 runs when they defeated the Baltimore Orioles 30-3 today.

The Rangers were trailing 3-0 before going on a 30-0 run.

The Chicago Colts, now the Chicago Cubs, were the last team to score 30 runs when they defeated the Louisville Colonels 36-7 on June 29, 1897.

Nixey Callahan was the winning pitcher in the Chicago Colts’ win. Jim Jones, a relief pitcher for the Louisville Colonels, made his major league debut in the third inning; his team was already trailing 14-0 when he entered the game.

The Rangers’ 30 runs set an American League record.
